Greg Morgan's Biography
Greg Morgan Sr
Greg Morgan has been active in the Catonsville community for 20 years. Greg and his wife, Karyn, have lived in the same Catonsville community for the past 14 years with their sons, Gregory Jr.,19 and Jonathan 15.
Greg has been a long-time leader in community, business and education, working with partners to strengthen and establish many of Catonsville’s cherished traditions.
The annual Christmas Tree Lighting Celebration, so loved by parents and children alike, was Greg’s brain-child. In the Christmas of 1994, Greg, Karyn and then, three-year-old Gregory, watched the Catonsville firemen decorate the evergreen on the front lawn of the fire house. The tree was a real Charlie Brown tree and one of the firemen told Greg they could really use a new one. The following spring, Greg had a new Christmas tree delivered from a tree farm in Carroll County and the annual tree lighting ceremony was born. That act of community spirit was followed by the building of the Santa House and the annual arrival of Santa on the fire engine. Today, more than a thousand residents welcome the holiday season with the annual tree-lighting celebration and hundreds explore Catonsville’s many shops and eateries while they celebrate the season.
While serving as the Executive Director of the Catonsville Chamber of Commerce, Greg helped to launch the ’Taste of Catonsville,’ where residents and visitors from the surrounding areas sample dishes from the many great restaurants and eateries in the Catonsville community. The ’Taste of Catonsville’ has been a rousing success for the past 13 years.
Greg served as Chairman of the Catonsville July 4th Celebration Committee from 1996 through 1998, making the event one of the best destinations for fireworks in the County. When Greg took over, the committee was running a deficit of $5,000, threatening the annual fireworks display. Greg canvassed local businesses for donations to provide the resources for that year’s celebration. Greg’s tenure as Chairman allowed this great Catonsville community tradition to survive and flourish over the next decade.
Greg has also been a leader in our schools, working with the Baltimore County School System to address issues concerning teacher shortages and administration. While serving as PTA President at both the elementary and middle school levels, Greg increased parental involvement in fund raising activities and organized general support of school initiatives.
And Greg understands first-hand the challenges faced by small businesses. He will bring that insight to the position of County Councilman. He currently is a consultant in the Construction Services Industry and for seven years before that, Greg owned and operated Chesapeake Door Service, Inc., a commercial and industrial service company located in Arbutus.
These are only a sampling of the contributions Greg has made to Catonsville and the Southwest Baltimore Communities. In addition, Greg has the following accomplishments to his credit. They are all marked by partnership, determination and a sense of community first.
