Promenade
Dear Mr. Morgan,
My name is Alexander Wolfe and I live in the Foxhall Farm Cluster community within Catonsville. I recently retired from the U.S. EPA after 30 years of dedicated service to protect human health and the environment and I am very aware of the environmental issues facing our country, state and local communities. I am in total opposition to the Promenade for obvious reason, loss of open space, congestion, a continued decline of clean air, non-point source run-off, and excessive noise pollution.
Sir, the developer and others supporting this project make the argument that the residents of Catonsville must travel outside of the community to find upscale restaurants, shopping and entertainment venues. In order to ensure that money is spent in Catonsville, the developer of the Promenade argues that a mega development as large as Arundel Mills needs to be built in order to satisfy pent-up demand for such services and amenities. As a resident of Catonsville for the past 18 years, I have found more than enough options in greater Catonsville to draw upon to satisfy our shopping and eating out desires. It is ludicrous to suggest that Catonsville must mirror the larger communities of Towson, Columbia, or downtown Baltimore in eateries, shopping and other amenities. This is a bogus argument for those individuals whom are opportunists and are driven by more basic human motives.
Once open space is gone Sir, it is gone forever. Catonsville sits on the door steps of I-95 and I-695, and is a recipient of noise and air pollution from both over congested highways. The last thing we need to add to our community is more noise pollution, more air pollution and more congestion. I urge you to publically reject the Promenade or any similar development. If you take this stand, I will gladly support your candidacy for County Council and make a donation to your effort.
